šŸ¤²ā€œWorkgroup Legal is unique.ā€ - hereā€™s how.

ā€œWorkgroup Legal is actually unique. Thereā€™s nothing else like it out there. There are hundreds conferences go on, but the thing about this one is itā€™s got a brilliant combination of conviviality and some great content. Because every session is facilitated by GCs, you get straight to the heart of the matter and so the content is really meaningful.ā€
Jeremy Barton General Counsel & Partner KPMG UK

Now, youā€™ll forgive me if Iā€™m late in writing this post-event summary - as I posted on LinkedIn, a wizard arrives precisely when he means to šŸ§™ā€ā™‚ļø - all about Workgroup Legal London which took place last month.

It is without a shadow of a doubt the joy of my career being able to organise these things, which arenā€™t just fun, but connect so many people who see their day-to-day jobs as pretty lonely.

Every event I hear people say something like, ā€œI thought I was massively behind on AIā€ or ā€œI donā€™t know how anyone else is coping with these salariesā€, and then realising after meeting other GCs that everyone is in the same boat, except now with dozens of GCs they can drop quick messages to for their advice.

As anyone reading this will now know, what makes this event special is the super frank and open discussion which takes place in the workgroups.

ā€œVery relaxed atmosphere, very informal. Peterā€™s done a great job in creating an environment where everyone feels safe to share and ask questions. Itā€™s the antithesis of a corporate event.ā€
Stephanie Wallace General Counsel Metro Bank

But I also have a bit of a philosophy with events, in that I think most panels at events are pretty crap. Every other legal event has multiple talk-at-you sessions on AI and ESG, but I think instead we should be debating the spicier, thornier things like how to do comms around conflict in the Middle East, and how to stand up to your board.

ā€œWhat makes this unique is the level of conversation. With other events you have a bit of the broad cast, but this gives you the opportunity to have really good quality conversations with people in similar roles to you.ā€
Marianne Jarvis Head of Legal Hall & Woodhouse

But I also think events should also entertain! šŸ„³

Which is why we run a GC gameshow at the end. I wonā€™t spoil the format too much, instead youā€™ll have to listen to the end of the video below to hear from Vivienne how it works.

Finally, a huge thank-you as ever to all the GCs who facilitated workgroups and sat on panels at the event, as well as to our sponsors Clarion, BCL, Sullivan & Worcester, and Mills & Reeve.

Now Iā€™ll let the GCs who attended speak for themselves, so do indulge me and watch the video below.

Peter Daniels | Director - Workgroup Legal

Hello! I run all things Workgroup Legal, the event series for General Counsel and Heads of Legal. I also set up Workgroup Events, so I guess that makes me Chief Workgrouper. Maybe Workgrouper in Chief? Anyway, I somehow magically get away with knowing very little on anything law-related, yet speak to at least 1 GC a day. This all means I have reems upon reems of digital notes taken from calls with some very senior legal people, albeit mostly just acronyms I still donā€™t really understand.
